Mac Filtering

Fri Dec 10, 2004 10:32 pm

Hello,

I have a small wireless network setup and have hopefully an easy question. I am using the Mikrotik Router OS and am using along with the hotspot feature trying to do MAC filtering. I am noticing that at times the end user logs in using their CPE's (all Tranzeo) and sometimes it picks up the MAC address of the CPE and sometimes the MAC address of the computers NIC. After speaking with Tranzeo they say that sometimes Mikrotik will look at the DHCP packets and pick up the NIC MAC address.
How would I prevent this from doing this and picking up only the MAC address of the customers CPE.

How do I have Mikrotik I make sure that it is authenticating the radio and not the device behind it.

Thanks.

I think you can't, as there are many wireless devices which "clone" the MAC address of the device behind it, so you never can be sure...
