Trying to connect to BT Infinity

Thu Jun 11, 2020 2:27 pm

Hi. I have tried searching this forum and the wiki for what must have been already covered, but I cannot find any information on connecting to BT Infinity VDSL. I have previoulsy used a Netgear router running the Tomato firmware.

I'm using the BT Openreach ECI modem. I have tried the bthomehub@btbroadband.com user name for the PPPoE connection, but obviously something more is needed.

Could somebody please point me to the relevant information or give me the steps required, including MTU settings. Thank you.

You should create a pppoe client on the ethernet connected to the modem.

MTU should probably be 1492, but if that fails try 1480.

If you open up the pppoe interface in winbox and click the status tab, you will see the status.

If you are using the default mikrotik config, you will also need to add the pppoe interface into the WAN interface list so that it NATs and is firewalled correctly.

Go to Interfaces -> Interface List and use the + to add the pppoe interface to WAN

You can also look in Logs to see what is happening.

Hope that helps
Nick

Thanks. I associated the PPPoE client to the WAN interface using Quick Set. I'll try to find out how to do all the config using the CLI, in time.

If you're more comfortable with GUI, just switch it over from QuickSet to normal mode ... after that you'll have everything at hand (structure is the same in normal GUI and CLI).

You can try using some of the CLI from here ;)
