How about a mail server included in this version? I think that would be very usefull.

Remember that this is a Router you are talking about. It is not likely that we will include a mail server in near future

and please don't forget web-, ftp, samba-, nfs-, print-, antivirus-, mp3-streaming-, sip-, and a few other minor servers ;-))

i'd like to see a mikrotik based appliance, but this would and should be a completely different product...

regards.

A bread toaster slot would also be nice...

I really hope MT sticks as a router / firewall ONLY and nothing else. Adding all this other stuff will cause the core functions to be compromised and I want to stick with MT forever, not just the next year. If you need a ftp server, get a ftp server, if you need a mail server, get a mail server, if you need a firewall then get Mikrotik.

You are right, Mikrotik should remain a routing/firewall software, and it's doing such a great job. It's unbelievable what I did with this software, many thanks to the crew that is developing it.

P.S. I got a different computer and installed a mail server.
:D

Best regards

Maybe SMTP-proxy or/and imap/pop3 proxy like the included squid would make more sense.
If any email services could be included, I'd rather see an SMTP hub/gateway aka backup MX redistributing emails to other MTA's.
But this again could be a totally different product.
