Maximum possible bandwidth for wireless PtP link

I need to set up a link between two buildings located 50 meters apart from each other. There is LOS between the two ends.

What hardware would you suggest to achieve the maximum bandwidth and what would that bandwidth be?

Don't want to be ofensive, but best hardware you could use, is a 50 m piece of sftp.

Else, if you mean radios, look in the forum for some tests, you could use any indoor configuration, to achieve anything between 6 mb/6mb (duplex) to 30 mb duplex, on that distance.
If you are absolutely shure you want wireless, post some more details on your intention. For a "transparent link" your best choice ( financially) could be a pair of rb133c, with r52.

I use some 133 but they don't have a good throughput, at all, better 5xx series.

If you read the subject, I did mean wireless. Cost is not an issue here, but I am really looking for 100 Mbps or higher.

From the forums, it looks to me that Nstream dual can provide the highest throughput, but how high for that distance and with what hardware?

Hi,

it's a matter of money. You can get laser links up to the gigabit-range.

As you post at MT-Forum I would say under normal conditions in ETSI
you get 15MBit bidirectional with 2 RB500 packed into a Rootenna.

If you're in a country which allows turbo mode you'll see
25MBit bidirectional.

So then you can put more money/work on it and go dual nstream and
bundle this, ... Using 5GHz you've 11 channels so theoretical you could
achieve 15*11 Mbit bidirectional, but then you've to separate Equipment,
So I would say up to 25Mbit it's easy. Above you have to learn and do
real work or buy an expert.

Nstreme Dual on 50meters should give you upto 75Mbps full duplex throughput.
If you want you can use two nstreme duals bonded should be about 130-140Mbps full duplex

You mean 4 wireless cards on each end for bonded Nstream dual? But is not true that bonding is rather used for load balancing and failover?

Unfortunately, I do not have equipment to test the setup you are suggesting, do you?

I would appreciate it if somebody did these tests and shared his results with us.

all you need is to bulid two nstreme dual links then bond them you can look into this topic:

for my link calculation, but in this case you don't need 28dBi antennas - 13dBi's should be more than enough

BTW. Have you heard about FSO/Laser links ? i'm positive that for 3000Euro you can find 100Mbps (or even 1000Mbps) free space optic link working on 50meters

Just an idea...

How tall are the buildings? If you had a steel cable and a mount point on each building (like power companies do) could you run that from building to building then run a cat5 cable across that?

Then put whatever gigabit switches you wanted on either side.

In that case i strongly suggest Single Mode fiber - there won't be any problem with lightings

Suggest you talk to stephenpatrick on this forum. He does custom high capacity MT based systems, as well as high capacity free space optic systems.

I agree fiber would be better. We have never had a problem here with our cat5 cables running from building to building, some have even been in for 10+ years...don't get much lightning I guess!

A multi-radio MT setup will use up 160MHz of spectrum to do >100Mbps FDX, and need twin dual-polarised antennas, with some separation between them. It can be done.

For high speed also consider Millimeter-Wave (60 or 70GHz) or Free Space Optics, either of which are ideal for 100Mbps FDX or 1000Mbps Gigabit links. Licensed Microwave can give you 622Mbps FDX with Gigabit Interface for longer links too.
We do all of the above.

If you need really fast PtP link, plug 4 atheros-based wifi adaptors (CM9 or R52) to some fast machine (> 1.5GHz CPU, not via chipset) on both sides and configure bonding of two nstreme dual links :) if you even use turbo, you get something like 160Mb Full Duplex link :) Use of gigabit NIC is suggested ;) If you dont need Full duplex, you get 320Mb link :) One turbo link makes about 60-80Mb depending on HW and distance.

I have never tried dial nstreme, but I use 10 ptp lines with normaln nstreme and turbo to get 60-70Mbps.

why dont u use fiber optics or something more better than wireless ? because of the distance of 50 m.
