Boot problems on RB532

I'm having an odd problem with an RB532 unit. This unit was in service as an AP for quite some time, and rather suddenly quit booting properly.

When I try to boot the unit without the S1 switch depressed, I get absolutely no output on the serial console, and the board doesn't boot (SSID's never show up, cannot connect on ethernet even by MAC). The Blue and Orange LEDs light and stay on solid.

When I hold down S1 and boot the unit to the 'backup bios', I get:
RouterBOOT booter 1.9

RouterBoard 532

Authorization: Passed
CPU frequency: 264 MHz
  Memory size: 32 MB
and the unit does not respond to any keystrokes, nor does it respond in any other way (network wise). The blue and orange LED's stay on solid.

I'm powering the board with a 48v POE. If I change the jumpers to 12-24v/jack power and plug in a 16v 1.2A power pack (from my laptop) the board does not even power up - no power LED.

I also tried downloading the 128MB refrence debian CF image from http://www.routerboard.com, and tried putting that on a flash in the board (to see if it would fail-over boot the flash) but I never got any output on the serial console, unless I pressed the S1 as above (with the same results).

I'd appreciate anyones' ideas on things to try to bring this board back from the dead!

I think the center pin wasn't touching, as when I used another direct power adapter (18v) I got the same results as the 48v POE.
