Fixing Datarate at AP

Hi.

Im using a Senao b/g client adaptor to connect to an routerboard AP.

I would like to know is it possible to configure the AP to only allow only specfied datarates?

The problem is that the client adaptor keeps trying the fastest one then stumbles, and drops the connection speed. I have found with expermenting i can achive a much higher transfer rate at a lower datarate. Also the client adaptor transmits at higher power at lower datarates, also improving transfers.

Thanks.

Use 'rate-set=configured' and use required supported rates, note that basic rates should be set to minimum as client supports.

Thanks for that, the problem is that we have many clents connecting to the same AP, some working great at 48meg, including feeds to other distrubition points. so dont want to force them to a lower speed.

I just wanted to force just the one client bridge to a certain speed.

It is not possible for one client. You may create additional virtual access point that will use different data-rate as parent wireless interface.

Good idea!

How do you set the data rates of the virtual ap, with winbox there is limited options.

Thanks

many of us dedicate a physical AP card for those with lower signal qualities but that has it's own challenges.

so there is no other way? its not a issue of weak sig, just a badly made bridge with little settings...

The problem is whether you have to lower the 48 M clients too.
You basically have to, if all is to share the same data rate.
To lower speed on the AP you set 1 supported rate and 1 basic rate.
If using 'B/G' mode you will probably have to setup atleast 2 supported rates and 2 basic-rates (depending on your station configurations)
