Automatically enter in Safe Mode - Option on user group

Fri Jan 22, 2021 3:43 pm

Our team has repeated complaints of forgetting to activate Safe Mode as soon as it starts changing something in the box.

My wish/suggestion is to create an option in System -> User -> Group from which it is defined that every time a user of that group accesses any of the equipment's interfaces (Winbox, SSH / Telnet, etc.) that this user already start accessing in Safe Mode compulsorily.

A second alternative solution to the same problem is:
The same as a user with write permissions, these write options are only enabled from the moment the user activates safe mode for the first time.
Logically, the choice for this mode of operation should also be configurable from a checkbox in System -> User -> Group

Sounds like a user problem for sure.
I turn it on every time i use winbox.
The question is of all the things that need fixing or improvement this is pretty low on the totem pole.

Forgetting to toggle safe mode is a problem. As much as some admins are forgetting to enable safe mode before start of making changes they will forget to exit safe mode after changes are done. And in this case all the changes will be rolled back. Which is worse, not enabling safe mode and screw things up, or not disabling safe mode after done and then have to re-do the changes ... it's up to individual's choice.

Yep! Sure!
As well as all the problems that users can cause.
And manufacturers like MikroTik, Cisco, Huawei, Juniper give the option to "put training wheels on users' bikes" so that they can choose whether or not to use these training wheels to avoid falling flat on their face.
it's up to individual's choice.
I agree that it should be a choice.
But unfortunately it still isn't.
Today, there is no way to choose whether a user will start in safe mode or not.
And it is precisely to be able to provide this freedom of choice that I request a checkbox with "open-always-in-safe-mode" in the user registration.

Had too many bad changes in my home network :-D

Well, that is a bit strange, because in a home network safe mode usually does not bring much.
It is mainly useful for managing remote routers that you cannot easily reach at L2 (MAC) level.
