Just a couple of questions about KNOT LR8 and MiniPCI-e and LoRa

Thu Jun 29, 2023 1:04 pm

Is it true, as stated in the KNOT LR8 specification, that it has a MiniPCI-e slot? Is the slot occupied by a device such as a modem or is it empty? Can a Wi-Fi module be installed in it? Does anyone have a photograph showing the location of the slot? Is it possible to route an antenna from the inserted Wi-Fi module?
And I have another question about LoRa. I'm not very familiar with this technology, but is it possible to create your own gateway for controlling your own LoRa devices based on it? Or is the built-in LoRa in KNOT only used as a gateway to connect to other LoRa networks?

You can find the block diagram over at:

miniPCIe is occupied by the LR8 miniPCIe card and it is meant to be used for LoRa.
You can try installing other miniPCIe cards instead, but it is not the "primary design" of the device.

LR8/LR9 miniPCIe cards are "packet forwarders"/gateways.
A typical topology would look like this:

In the current implementation, the LoRa card just forwards the payloads to the configured server (as per the Lora "gateway" description).
