Hi,

I’m looking for some suggestions for which router to purchase to get at least 500MB throughput on WireGuard.

I’m currently using HexS and only achieving 100MB

Thanks

I suggest the RB4011 or RB5009, I believe you will be able to achieve these transfer rates.

I do not think that you will be able to achieve 500Mb with any MT router. I am maxed out on two 1gig connections with the same provider a few miles apart and the best we can achieve is around 300 or so.... Concur that you should do better than 100, but only if both ends of the connection provide enough throughput on the ISP. Not convinced the hex is limiting throughput to 100 but I could be wrong.

What router model are you using? I've seen other posts from people claiming well above that. Believe they were using RB5009s.

I did a bandwidth test here now, RB4011 testing for another RB4011 via the Wireguard tunnel. Each location has a 500mbps connection.

Thats fine, but the way we tested was the opposite end did an ookla speed test through my router and I did the reverse through the other router. Show results doing such real world tests and then I will beleive you. Trying to keep it real and not give false expectations.

My equipment far site was isp router to RB4011, my end was CCR1009 to RGB450G (wireguard server)

You aren't running the test with one of the routers as the client or serving endpoint are you? Routers are not meant for that type of activity and will always perform less than amazing. You have to use non-router client/server at both ends to test this.

I did this test here, from a machine behind the client making a copy of a file that is on a machine behind the Wireguard server. I achieved rates above 50MB/s.

I know it's not the best way to do the test, I just wanted to show that the RB4011 is possible of running this speed on Wireguard.

I used hex s for the same with mangle.
Ipsec around 90/90, wireguard 130 download and.40-50 upload.
Now I use 4009, it heats 200/200 mbit of my isp connection with ipsec/wireguard.
My guess you may reach higher speeds with routes. Mangle works slow.
