Is my CRS310 DOA?

Sat Nov 25, 2023 7:39 am

I just received a CRS310-8G+2S+IN and have been trying to set it up as a simple switch. After a LOT of difficulty getting access to the webui because it was constantly freezing and failing to load, I was able to tell it to switch over to SwOS and reboot. Afterwards it does not appear to be able to start up at all. I get a blue light that blinks every 60s or so, the fan spins up to max RPM, and there are no activity lights on the ports. I can no longer connect through the webui or WinBox. Factory reset doesn't appear to work.

Is there anything I can do here other than just return the switch?

Proper reset sequence:
The reset button has these functions:

Hold this button during boot time until the user LED light starts flashing, and release the button to reset the RouterOS configuration.
Keep holding the button for 5 more seconds or until the user LED turns off, then release it to make the RouterBOARD look for Netinstall servers. The first Ethernet port is used for the Netinstall process.

Regardless of the above option used, the system will load the backup RouterBOOT loader if the button is pressed before power is applied to the device. Release the button before LED begins to flash, to only load the backup RouterBOOT without resetting. This is useful for RouterBOOT debugging and recovery.
If this doesn't work: netinstall.

As a FYI for anyone who happens to read this thread, my CRS310 wasn't DOA. It simply doesn't support SwOS and the documentation was not clear on this. The management UI will happily let you tell it to boot into an OS that doesn't exist, thus bricking the switch until you reset the settings.

Now THAT's a big bug !!
Have you contacted support about this ?

As a side note:
in your first post you mentioned you were told to move it to SWOS.
Who told you so ?

Personal note:
I also have a SWOS device in my home network (CSS610, SWOS-Lite) to learn what it is but I prefer ROS a lot more (much more flexibility).

This has happened before on other switches - Mikrotik just needs to remove the option for swos for that switch in an updated version as swos is not a supported option for that switch.
