RBM33G ethernet port link issue

Wed Aug 07, 2024 11:07 pm

I'm having a problem with many RBM33G devices often not linking at 1G. I've put approximately 15 in production over the last few weeks.

- They devices link up and work properly at 100M
- They link at 1G connected on the desk with short cable runs
- Nearly every one we've put in production will not link at 1G after install (typically a permanent cable run of 100 to 250ft STP cat5e)
- We've tested/re-terminated the cable and this does not resolve
- We've tried other devices capable of 1G link on POE and they work properly over these links.

Is it possible that the RBM33G has a weak ethernet port?

Any potential work arounds to this problem? I'm ordering some RBM11G to test but it seems likely this is a simplified version of the same hardware so likely to have the same problem.

Re: RBM33G ethernet port link issue

Update: I realized that many of the POEs we were sending out were only 100M POEs.

It remains very strange that in my lab, other devices could link at 1G over a test cable run that the RBM33G could not (even with correct POE). The cable tested good but I re-terminated both ends and now the RBM33G gets a 1G link though that as well.
