Hardware suggestion please

Mon Oct 14, 2024 11:13 pm

Hi, I replaced a failed home router with an RB750GR3 that i had spare at the time. My internet connection is currently 74Mbps, soon to be upgraded to 1.6Gbps.

I want to implement VLANS, I have many IOT devices that need to be isolated from my usual network.
I've also been advised that my SonoS music streaming devices will stop buffering/stuttering if put them in their own VLAN.
And of course id like my guests to have separation.

I have a CRS326 switch for my wired devices, which I bought knowing I would want to implement VLANs at some point.

I'm thinking of replacing the RB750GR3 with a HAP AX3.

Would this be a suitable choice?

Thanks
Colin

PS, i had a link to a great Mikrotik forum article/guide on implementing VLANs, but seems the article has been deleted - does anyone have a link to a suitable article please?

A. 1.6Gbps link is best served by the RB5009 Router with room for growth....... ( up to 3gigs so sufficient for an ISP 2.5gig connection )
B. Budget choice is indeed the hapax3 with 1.1Gbps with 25 filter rules and higher with less rules so close enough!!

The Ax3 will choke around 1.1-1.2 Gbps.
Rule of the thumb Is test results for routing with 25 firewall filter rules, 512 bytes packets.
For 1.6 Gbps you will need a RB5009 (or a RB4011).
