Initial Access

Hi,
On installation to a headless box using Netinstall I can connect via hyperterminal to the router, but on login ( admin/blank password]I am asked to hit the enter key.

'Please press "Enter" to continue!'

On doing so I am told

'could not connect to console, try rebooting the router'

Rebooting doesn't solve the problem.

I assume serial console isn't activated. How do I install so that I can communicate through the conso;e as i don't have direct access via a keyboard?

Serial console is surely enabled after a successful netinstall (at 9600 baud or whatever other speed you gave it in the netinstall parameters).

I would suspect a broken install and do a re-install...

Unfortunately no. The documentation tells me that defaut install sets serial console to 'off' which seems strange to me.

I have reinstalled but to no avail. I wonder does anyone know how to change the default parameter to 'on' before install. This would solve my problem

Hmmm. I checked the docs and they really state that serial console is not enabled by default. But all installations I have done definitely have the serial console enabled after netinstall (just did the last one half an hour ago...) - without the need to activate it before it's usable...

Thanks Christian,
Seems strange. I can't think of any other explanation for the messages I'm getting other than that the serial console is off. I know installations won't work if the bios isn't changed to disable peripherals on boot, but this one has been set up that way. I know the machine is OK because I have tested it with another hard drive and installed IPcop to check that everything works alright headless.
