I finally had my mAP running properly, and one of the last things to do was add the NTP client package, which is supposed to be part of the "MAIN" package. And that's when things went to sh!t !

The mAP was running version 6.x (don't recall exact version), and the built in package updater said that was the latest stable version. But on the website I saw version 7.16.2 was the latest stable. So I downloaded the MIPSBE 7.x version, copied to the mAP's files section, rebooted, and tada I was upgraded.

But, on startup the mAP kept reporting a script error, eventually giving up saying it can't find any wireless adapters. and if I try to add the wireless interface manually it doesn't see it!

What have I done!! I should have left it alone, but I'm stuck. Can someone tell me what to do next? I tried adding the EXTRAS package thinking maybe the wireless driver was in there. Nope. I tried the "DOWNGRADE" button from the packages section, but after a reboot still running the same version.

Thank god I fixed it....for anyone else doing something stupid like this:

Go the the Mikrotik HARDWARE page for the mAP. Then go to support, then click download for RouterOS.

There you will see a SECOND package called wireless. That has the driver you need. Now it's running again!

Don't worry , it happens to everyone, it is the second mistake that happens to everyone (the first one is losing access to the device when fiddling with settings and needing to reset it).

The mAP should run fine with latest 6.x version (6.49.17 if I recall correctly) whilst with v 7.x versions it may be a bit slower, as the architecture and processor/resources are a bit tight for 7.x.

As of 7.13 wireless or wifi-qcom, depending on your device, is a separate package.

I have a couple of mAP devices running just fine with ROS7 incl wireguard and IPSEC tunnels.

Upgrade from ROS6 is to ROS 7 via on-line upgrade, has a specific path to follow

Upgrade via the usual channels stops at last ROS 6 version

There is an extra upgrade path called "Upgrade" that brings 7.12.1 as version.
From 7.12.1 onwards you can go further in the ROS7 upgrade paths.

7.12.1 is needed for changing the package list in 7.13, including the split off "wireless" package (WLAN driver) , or even the "wifi-qcom/wifi-qcom-ac" package (wifi driver)

It's in the release notes since 7.13 and has been repeated many times in the RN
