XR5 or SR5? Some doubts about XR5

Fri Jan 25, 2008 1:42 am

Hi All,

I am writing on here simply because we noticed a strange behavior from the new links we installed lately. I am not talking about 1 or 2 links but something like 10-20 links we installed. So let me summarize. During the last months we installed new links and lately after so many install, we noticed that most of the problems were coming from the "new links". So we started investigating and the latest doubts come from the radio cards.
At the beginning I was thinking that the problem was in the "air", i.e. the channel were already full. But after a while I noticed that it could not happen from day to night that links were down. Something like links working at -60 were not connecting anymore after few hours. Or the link was working nicely on one side (RX -60) but the RX on the other side was -90. And the most strange thing was that using dual feed dishes one of the links was working nicely (full speed), the other one was not even connecting. So it could not be a problem of antennas or frequencies, especially because the same symptom was happening in different locations and all of them using the new XR5 cards. Well the other idea was that it could be a software things so we installed Alix cards with 2.9.50 but again having the same problem.

So I am starting to think that the problem could be in the XR5 cards in general. I do not want to hurt Ubiquiti, we really liked the SR5 cards and that's why we got a bunch of XR5 cards, but this is something I need to understand. So what I will do is to try to change the radio card, without touching anything else, hoping that the link will not jump from -90 to -50 or I will know where the problem is (the cards).

So I am wondering if some of you have the same problem or suspect.

thank you

Have you contacted Ubiquiti to get their input?
They also have a forum.

Hello PDF...

What are you using for Clients, RB133, RB411, R532 ???

If you are using the RB133, I personally have found that the XR cards do not work properly on these boards... Current supplied to the cards is just not enough.

I have had good success with RB411 and XR2.
Also if you are using 2 cards on a RB532 be sure one of them is not an XR card.

We are using on RB333, one RB333 + one XR5 on both sides. Those are point to point links.

Any hint is appreciated.

Thank you.
