RouterOs 3.1 on RB-532A

Sat Jan 26, 2008 7:04 pm

I am having problems using RouterOs 3.1 on a RB-500r5. In order to test the newly released RouterOs 3.1 I upgraded the 2 routers, RB-532A's, (08:00 today) closest to me, Merino and Niekerksberg. The rest of my routers were still running on 2.9.50. I am using OSPF routing. The network was working good. I noticed a gradual decline in the performance of the network. At about 14:30 the entire system froze. This was the second time that I tried to test release 3, on both occasions it froze my entire network.

I was also not able to access any http site nor could I log into my POP3 server, but could ping them. I then had to drive to the 2 routers, Merino and Niekerksberg, to downgrade back to 2.9.50. The system is now stable and working very good.

Will I encounter the same problems running 3.1 on the RB-600's and 2.9.50 on the RB-532A's?? I need some answers as I cannot afford to have downtime on my network, my routers are on top of mountains and 2 hours driving apart.

Maybe i would wait a little bit until V3.x is completely stable in your environment.. You need to test (as you do) before deploying it in big scale.

Currently I am running 3.1 on a 300MHz Intel PII computer acting as my User-Manager on the same network without any problems. After posting this topic I upgraded a RB-133C I am using to access the network via PPPoE from 2.9.50 to 3.1 and immediately the system froze. I was able to ping all network addresses but could not access the internet, nor could I log into my routers via Winbox. After downgrading to 2.9.50 all was back to normal and stable.

This means that without answers, I cannot improve my network by installing RB-600's. I have then wasted money purchasing RB-600's.

I've my first 600er running for 3 days in production on 3.0. Does a good job until now
running OSPF. Working as backbone router on a tower running 3 Nstreamlinks on
3 RB52/5GHz. On the other ends are RB500 running 2.9.x.
Cant do full speed on all links. I think this is interference due to the 3 nearby cards
all in 5GHz. I've to do more testing on this.
I'll leave my 500s at 2.9.x for the moment as my first attempt to upgrade to 3.1 in lab
caused a fresh netinstall.

Thats good news. Are you running on 3.0 or 3.1? I would like to install a RB-600 at my ADSL access point with 2 x R52 (5GHz, 5700 and 5640), the one for my network to the North and the other to the South.

The inconvenience is that if the system hangs/fails I have to travel 20km to downgrade.

I'm running 3.0. Take care and run the 600ers in lab for 24h. We've gotten 2 boards
which randomly reboots. So some early models seem to have problems.

I've got OSPF and v3.1 running on many backhauls links with rb532, rb333, and x86 systems and have not had a problem. I also had a mixture while moving to v3.1 on 2.9.50 and its been fine too.

There have been a few bumps but forging ahead with newest 3.1 and firmware upgrades has cleared most of the issues up.
