Removing Mikrotik elements from beacons

Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:52 pm

Are there any news on how to edit or hide the beacon sendout?

Can one change the beacon informations in 7.17?

Some additional infos, since the context is no longer available as this thread got moved to a better place:

The wifi beacon frame when setting up a wifi network transmits not only the ssid but also

1- Brand name of device (MikroTik) / exact modelnumber
2- Identity of the device (found in system/identity)
3- Routerboard.com

This looks nice BUT I do not want to publish all these informations to a possible attacker.

Does anyone have an idea how to disable this?

Thoughts:
2-Removing the identity line from the device should delete the second line in the mentioned sample.
3-The "Routerboard.com" line could be disovered from the mac address, as the used mac realm is assosiated with "Routerboard.com"
Setting a different mac address for a wifi adapter should change that.

It would of course be more convenient to change these data directly or just set UNKNOWN.

Good quote indeed, but that does not help in resolving the issue or helping me how to edit the beacon informations.

Does someone else have an idea how to edit the transmitted informations in the wifi beacon?

Very good initiative- thanks for bringing this up RicSan!
This is a must in higher security setups.

This request is a joke, right?
You can not edit the beacon... you can only eat the bacon
