How do I set up a simple WEP Client using Mikrotik?

We have an access point (with DHCP server) on 192.168.1.2 (with gateway at 192.168.1.1).

I'd like to set up a simple WEP client using a routerboard running Mikrotik 2.9.26.

So far, I've assigned an IP address to Eth0 and to Wlan1 (both on the 192.168.1.0 network)

The Wlan is associated with the access point, great, but how do I connect the network on Eth0 to the wireless network?

Now I'm stuck. Any help gratefully received. If you suggest "bridge", then please let me know how to set it up.

How do I get round this, or how do I set it up with a different network then?

You need to bridgeeee, and i will show you howwww ... Its really simple so dont get in a bunch. Simple go to the bridge section, hit hit the add button. pretty much leave it as it and hit ok, (It sets itself up almost) Once your bridge is created click on the "ports" tab This is the INTERFACES that needs to be bridge, This is also very simple, simple hit the + button again, dont change anything else just go down to the interface or whatever it is called and select wlan1 or your wireless interface, then hit OK. Then you are going to add another port, however this port will be ether1 or whatever your ethernet is. THIS SHOULD work!!! So good luck! let me know how it goes. -Jordan

I'm not near my routerboard at the moment, so I can't try it out until a bit later.

I read somewhere that it was not possible to bridge eth0 to wlan when the wlan is in "station" mode?

I'm not sure if I understand this properly. Any ideas?

Dosent sound right to me. however i am not familair with station just ap-bridge. But give what i said a try when you do get near your routerboard. good luck -Jordan

Can you provide a bridge export and port export, or pictures, i need information because i beleive you are doing something wrong. briding the interfaces should work.. are you sure you have internet through your wireless connection? hmm Posting information will help! i also read before that is not possible to bridge wlan to AP while wlan in station mode .

Your bost is not quite clear in what you are trying to accomplish, IF you are trying to setup a repeater AP there are many things you can do, you do not need to setup a bridge, just between the interfaces you whish to be married, what wlan1 knows ether1 knows IF You bridge them, If you have internet going into ether1 and it is bridge to wlan1 then wlan1 will have internet... ANd yes you bridge wlan and your ether port if your setting your mikrotik router in a station mode or CPE< If i have errored in what i am trying to point out please be more precise on what you need to know? thanks -Jordan


you can add more ports into the ports section of your bridge, and they will all be married.

first my MT wlan1 port act as AP bridge to supply wireless client with internet coming from ethernet .
wlan1 have internet and passing the internet to client without any problem
i need to connect many repeater AP in different plances arround me to do like roaming .
what i did first to setup the first AP as repeater for the wlan , it didn't work .
activate the WDS in the wlan setting , the repeater still not working then i add a WDS to the wireless interfaces and also not working .
and as you know when you add a WDS , a new interface come in the interfaces table and i read about the bridging process , then i add bridge1 and add ports to this bridge which they are wlan1 and wds .
now the repeater working with the wlan1 and i connect the laptop to the first repeater AP by wireless connection .
everything is fine now , and when i turn off the repeater AP the laptop connect directly to the Wlan1 while the wireless work as roaming .
but
when i tried to add another repeater to the network , as above i add a new WDS and a new bridge2 and start adding the ports to it then a message telling me that wlan1 is already active with another bridge which it bridge1 .
and when i tried to add wds2 to bridge1 , it didn't work maybe the problem with the micronet AP .
i will keep trying with another AP to see if it will work or not .

OK that post helped alot! Now i know your using WDS< and trying to achieve roaming.. When you add a the bridge, it should be bridge1 not any other bridge, as far as i know making WDS< you create a interface called wds, set a Mac address, set the master interface which would be wlan1, and on your Repeater AP, you do the same except the Mac address there will be the mac address of station 1. that should connect the 2, However i have seen problems were you could set it to AP-bridge, and had to be a station./ Which is not correct because it should be set to ab-bridge and still make the connection using the WDS interfaces added...

However i do not use this type of repeater mode, however i am a WISP you are probibly a hot spot, or trying to cover a large area and want to roam with your laptop without being disconnected. Kind of like cell towers.

Ok i re read your post. so your on AP2 OK< now your on AP3 and your having issues... I do not see why you are messing with bridging, there is no bridging needed on AP2 Because it comes in wirless and goes out wireless, So you simple create another interface on AP3 type in the MAC of AP2.. and select master interface just like AP2.. But, when my laptop connect to MT 3, I can get IP 1.1.1.149 (from DHCP) buat I can not ping to 1.1.1.1

Do you have any natting going down? is this bridged or routed? Need more information of how MT2 and Mt# are connected. -Jordan
