Ability to edit User Manager pages?

Hi,

I've just bought a level 6 license after seeing how well MT runs compared to the old software I was running, but I noticed a few potential issues. First of all, the pages for the user manager are locked out? I customised the login page with our company logo etc, but there doesnt seem to be a way to do this with the signup process?

Secondly, whilst it is evident that the user manager is essentially a Radius server, I am not sure whether this stores details normally or uses a MySQL or similar database. If it does use a database is there some way to access it as i have one or two web applications I would be interested in linking to it.

I would be grateful if someone were to shed some light on this,

Thanks for a great system,

Hi all

I was wondering if there are any plans in the near future to open the UM database so one could write your own customised GUI.

I'm at a point where I need to make a huge decision. Either I stick with UM for another month or two and live with certain limitations (with regards to customising the interface), or purchase a full function RADIUS manager like DMASoftlabs' RADIUS MANAGER.

I would prefer to make use of UM since it's so straight forward to do scripting in MT, but our needs and clients' demands are unfortunetaly growing.

Many thanks, G

the database is not that difficult :) if you can write your own GUI, what stops you making your own for any kind of RADIUS server?

Mikrotik for me is a much better platform to build upon. It's a small but very affective system.

If a MT router / UM had to crash for whatever reason, a new one could be up and running within 10minutes including all your scripts and special tweaks.

If a RADIUS server had to crash, you may not be so lucky, even with RAID, backups and more backups.

First prize is defnitely MT UM, but we do need some interfacing with the DB to step it up one more level to fit our individual needs.

Just my 20c ;)

Hi normis

The ability to change the colours and add pictures would be a bonus, but should be done right at the end I reckon.

More important now is to finish off the groups and dropdown menus etc. It would be awesome if you could add your own custom dropdown menu's and fields and also remove unused fields.

If you have a look at DMASoftlab, they got the "profiles" working very nicely with their "SERVICES" function. DMASoft is designed for the WISP application but could also be used for hotspots. The downside, for me, about DMA is the fact that it runs off Linux and not as a standalone like Usermanager and Mikrotik.

Have a look here: http://radmandemo.dmasoftlab.com/admin.php
Login: admin / 1111

The aestetics of UM is not that important right now, the functionality is far more important.

I would like to build in a limited accounting function into UM (invoicing etc). If I decide to go with DMA, I also have to build that functionality in, so I'd rather do it on UM so we have everything in one place.

So what do we really want?
1) Ability to add, remove, move buttons, dropdown menus etc on the UM page
2) Ability to code the above buttens/functions using scripting (similar or same to normal MT scripting)
3) Abiity to access (read and write) the Usermanager Database.
4) Ability to add more tables to the current UM DB. (For example add a boolean table: "AcccountPaid" which could be used to disable that user if still unpaid after 10 days etc)

The development team has focused a lot on Hotspot tickets etc, which is nice for hotspot users, but we don't really have a use for it. We need a system where a secratary could login and in layman's terms see a user reached his/het cap limit, add another 2GB, invoice and move over to the next client. Whatever system we use, DMA etc, we would have to recode many parts anyway. If I could have my way I'd much rather start from scratch and build upon the Usermanager system and build the complete accounting function to my needs, and my needs are more than likely the same as another 500+ South African WISP's.

Hi serge

Thanks for the useful info.

I think it would really be nice if one could at least execute a MT script from the UM GUI, and also get a response on screen (if applicable).

I'll have to see how the customization works before I can comment on that.

I know you can backup the user DB, but many users really have the need to extract or enter data to it.

I would like to test-drive the new UM, is there a BETA that could be downloaded? I couldn't find any.

Ah I hadn't realised the topic had picked up so much steam while I was away. I bought a copy of DMASoft's Radius Manager - as it seemed to have a lot of features user manager doesnt - but once i had a copy of it i wished i'd never bought it. The software itself runs pretty well, with the ability to create tickets easily, set up different services without trouble etc. But there were glitches in it that I didnt like (for instance prices must be displayed in USD, only supports american credit cards) i also receive an error every time I try to pay by paypal, som i'm looking for a refund and i'm going to go back to user manager - it's very interesting the developments you are going to make - will we have the ability to edit the pags directly / templates (like in the splash page) or will we have to define things such as colours and images in a CSS file / GUI?

You will be able to change images, set different colors and specify which options in tables should be displayed and which not.

Hi Serge

Is it possible with the new UM to add more variables? I'm specifically trying to add a secondary E-Mail address to a client's profile (one to send usage statistics to and another to send invoices to).

It is also crytical for me to have more variable fields for scripting purposes. Currently people like me and Krige is using the comment field for variables, but it is real hard to do it that way, because the length of variables are not always the same.

Cosmetic changes such as logo's etc is a nice to have but not as essential at this point, for us at least.

There will be new other features added to the User Manager.
Not only logo or cosmetic changes.

The feature you are asking, currently is not included to the User Manager.
Thank you for the feature request. We will see what we can do.

You can add/move/remove menus on the UM page.
Can you please elaborate on how this is done?

That only apply to UM4+

If you have a spare router/PC, try MT4 Beta, the interface looks very nice, although it's not yet ready to be used in production

Hello to all,

I have a question about editing the web interface of user manager like the hotspot, I created the umfiles directory in the router but I can't find the Settings part in the customer web interface, like it is in thre wiki.

Can you please help me with some guidance about this? Do I need a special version of user manager? I currently have 4.2

Thanks for your responses

magnavox,
it is included to userman-test package, where you can edit logo and other information.

eromosere,
do you have the latest MikroTik User-Manager (userman-test 4.4)? Do you have shared-users configured?

andrescamino,
User-Manager interface is not edited in the same way as HotSpot.
Go to Settings ---> Style in Web-interface of User Manager, you can change appearance settings there.

I recently updated to user-manager 4.4 expecting to see some of the new functions in the Test package, but noticed that it is still the same as the old 3.X version.
When will the beta/test package become stable?
Or is the test package now able to accept payments and do pretty much everything userman needs to do?

Thanks.

Sorry to bother, but are there any expected timetables for when the test package will become stable.
User Sign-up is very important, when will that function work?

Am I missing something?? I installed 4.5 on my PC and I still don't see away to edit pages or add custom logos. One of the wiki pages said to create a directory called umfiles, upload your logo file then go to User Manager Customer web page go to Settings and you specify a link to your uploaded logo file. I am not seeing anything like that and I have been through every option in the user manager. Help please!

Most likely you have install regular User Manager package.
Use User Manager test package, which you can download from forum post at The User Manager section.
Install User Manager test package, then you will be able to edit logo and other stuff.

I installed userman-test-4.16 but did not see anywhere to modify the user signup pages.

I did see where I could add my logo to the user manager admin page but that's really not that important.

Did I miss it or is it not there?

Go with DMAsoftlab.com 's radius manager. The newest version is awesome! It really generated some cash for our seasonal hotspot users. These guys can even do the setup for real cheap. You then just have to modify the pages to suit your ISP. I really like the features it has.

Any ways yeah the MT UM has been promising something for years now. With nothing to show.

I wish they would develop something. As a WISP operator we need compatibility and a seamless means that is quick to deploy for authentication. Try to run a WISP by manually shutting off non-paying customers. It is a problem.

But as a MT user I really see the capabilites and everything of the MT I think a lot of us here also need to see more development in a ROI like UBNT. We need it all tied in. I like to think MT was made for the WISP operators and not just for the router people out there.

DesertAdmin

Is there a way to hide users menu from view?

in the customers section i made a new user for an employee with only read access.
this employee is able to view the entire users list.
i want to limit him only view single user and that is by using "advanced search".

is this possible..?
