The Most powerfull hardware you tried with Mikrotik v2.9.X

Fri Mar 07, 2008 10:40 am

We need powerfull hardware which can work with v2.9.51 stable.

Can you list your Xeon, Intel Desktop CPU, AMD CPU configurations with exact name of motherboard and nic, which works stable with v2.9.X and have newer hardware than Pentium 4 with CPU of 1M cache memory?

just remember that 2.9 doesn't support multi-core and multi-cpu systems and SATA, so this is somewhat limiting your choices

I suppose that you know why I am asking this question. I am using v3.X for some purposes, but for one "special" purpose (and you know what is it) I need to use v2.9.51 with as powerfull hardware as possible.

If somebody used v2.9.X on more powerfull hardware than Intel Pentium 4 3GHZ 1MB cache and supported motherboard, and it worked stable for at list 10 days (uptime minimum 10 days), please post your results.

And if somebody used XEON processors on this mikotik version, also please post your results.

Have you tried with Athlon LE-1640?

Athlon is more efficient than Pentium 4 series and for me is the best monocore platform.

nowires,

thank you very much for your post.

I read few reviews of this processor and find out that this processor is comparable to Intel Celeron processor and not to full Intel Pentium 4. We are using full pentium 4 processor which is more powerfull than Athlon LE-1640 ..

Thank you for your suggestion but this one will not help us.

Other suggestion?

I know this one will work. http://www.supermicro.com/products/syst ... 5M-MF+.cfm
We purchased a Xeon 3Ghz and RB44GV as well. This system has been very stable with 2.9. I am planning on purchasing a backup router and testing V3 on it soon.

In V3, much more options including SMP support..

We are selling up to 8 CORE Xeon Dual-Power Supply Units with up to 22 GigE interfaces on them!

Letni,

Thank you for your info, we will consider to test it, if we find this motherboard in our country.

gmsmstr,

I checked your offer, you made excellent hardware combinations! But, unfortunatelly we cannot use v3 for this particular purpose. If we can, our problem will be solved immediatelly, we can just wait new versions of routerOS to fix problem or use v2.9.X where problem doesn't exist with as much powerfull hardware as we can. But our choice is limited.

So far, Pentium D with motherboard which supports v2.9.X will be the best choice available. Or some combination with XEON processors. But I am not sure which combination fo Xeon processors works on v2.9.X. Letni, mention one.
