Queues / QoS on L2TP tunnel for VOIP

Thu Mar 20, 2008 3:02 pm

I have been using Router OS on 2 RB532's between 2 locations for over a year with no problems. Original plan was for limited VPN connection for connecting to a SCO unix system and sending back data to a local printer. This works great. Over the last year I have added features with no problems, including some routing and firewall limits for specific remote access.

Now I need to add some type of QoS for VOIP traffic.
Both locations have RB532's with RouterOS 3.2, 1.5M/892K DSL

Location 1
local net 192.168.0.x
VOIP server 192.168.0.131
L2TP server with a dedicated named interface.

Location 2
local net 192.168.1.x
L2TP client
IP phones are DHCP configured but could be made static, they are sequential in IP addresses.

Currently VOIP traffic has not impacted by not having QoS, but I suspect at some point it will be.

My question is how do you queue the L2TP traffic or is marking the packets the best approach.
Currently I only need to prioritize the VOIP traffic, the rest of the traffic can fight it out.
