BGP + OSPF default routes

Thu Apr 03, 2008 12:28 pm

Hi i added a jpeg of a network setup i just keep struggeling with.
see this
network.jpg
we have to MT routers running 2 different peers.
the rest can be whatever routing protocol i want.

i now use OSPF and bgp.
i have bpg peers on both boxes. and a BGP peering between both bgp routers.
i run ospf between de bgp routers and the agr routers and the colo routers.

everything runs fine, but for some reason the defaults routes keep dissipearing...
running version 3.6 any ideas or do i need to run a different config.

ooohh... be sure that everybody from forum admins knows quite enought about BGP+OSPF...
i suppose many other people - too...
i suppose that they feel that "who uses bgp is at very high level, therefore cannot have any configuration problems".
but friends, we decide to use mikrotik for this purposes, not cisco. and we need help.

Hi

I would advise that you turn synchronization of in the BGP routers (if you are using IBGP between them which I suspect you are), this could fix your problem.

I would also advice that you configure a high static default route out of the network so that even if you experience this problem, you will still have atleast one working default route. If you want any more input, please provide some more information.

Re: BGP + OSPF default routes

that is just the strange thing i already tried to do.

i added a default route on the lower BGP/ospf routers with metric 300
as i have routes with lower metrics ak iBGP= 220

i see the route as long as no other default route is given by ospf.
if i disable the static default route, the ospf route appears with metric 200 so lower.
i then enable the static one again, and everything is like it should.
if now one of the routers that was announcing the default route goes down (reboot)
the default ospf route doesn't come back and all swithes over to de static one,
and i can start over again, with the disable en so on.

this for the default OSPF route issue

the other issue with the BGP is.
i have some peers on one router Ebgp en some on the other.
to make sure i have rendundacy.
there is a iBGP between them.

i change the distance of the iBGP routes to 20
so the eBGP and iBGP routes have the same distance.
this way i can do prepending en MED and so on, to make sure the traffic flows to the correct peers i want.
if i do any in-filtering on the iBGP session, for these prepending,MED and so on...
both routers go to 100% CPU and routes come in until 110000-140000 routes of the 240000 routes full bgp feed.
Then the CPU goes down as normal but i just don't get all the routes.
