DNS server bug?

Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:05 pm

Hi all.
I have a problem with DNS server built in Mikrotik.
A lot of page doesn't load because can't resolve. I just google and trying to open link one by one. Half of links doesn't open. But if I change ip address of dns server on client to my provider's dns everything opens. I've tryied to disable all firewall rules. Also I have 2 link to 2 providers. I've tried to disable one. But no luck. I tried to do nslookup from clients and for some site Mikrotik just said *** No address (A) records available for _____ even if I run it multiple time. I can't understand what happened, the only reason I can imagine is timeout from Mikrotik dns server to provider's dns. But in Mikrotik I can't change timeout value for remote request. Hope somebody help me with this.

Greetings!

Before we use "bug", let's use "setup".

In your /ip dns settings, do you:
have the correct primary and secondary dns servers?
have allow-remote-requests=yes ?

I've set it all allready.

My investigation show that not only Mikrotik dns server run with error, also if I use for client internal Microsoft dns server it also some times failed to resolve domain name. Not so friqently but also. The only situation when everything goes smoothly - if I set dns server of my provider to client machine and doesn't use proxy. I can't understand this and don't know what to do next.

I had this problem and found that I had not enabled remote requests on my main AP, only my secondary.

Sorry to all.
I was wrong about bug in Mikrotik.
I use snifer today and found that it was some configuration problem on the provider side.
I set another provider dns server and everything works like a charm.
