null modem cable

Sun Jun 08, 2008 11:22 pm

:( Hi All. I made a null modem cable 2 -3, 3-2, 7-8, 8-7 5-5, 6-4,4-6 pinout.
I forgot username and password and was hoping to access board via Hyper terminal.
It does not seem to work.
I connect cable between pc and router board, set Hyperterminal up as described in Mikrotik General information, and then connect power to board and nothing happens on Hyper terminal screen.
I am using usb-serial adaptor.

What am I doing wrong and is there a way to reset board so I can get back to username: admin, and no password like when new?

Thanks

Make a cable like this on a 9-pol dsub:

A - B
5 - 5
3 - 2
2 - 3

Now you can't reset your admin account!
You need the reset the thing to default (netinstall from BIOS)! and all your setup is lost (but hey... you do have your backup right?) :)

No do not have backup. I received this from a friend who gave up on Mikrotik.
All I have to do is to start from the beginning with the configuration.
Or do I loose everything and I have to give it back its life after the reset..... will it totally bank?

If you netinstall, it will be a clean install with no config...

It's 115200 baud, not 9600. The rest of the settings will work.

The top banner contains a link to the User Manual.

what os do you use?if you use windows 7 i suggest to buy ds9 to usb converter which the production date 2007 and above(just look at the back of the product box) and tried to find product which already have distributor on US and Canada or europe, eventough it made on china but the product who have reseller/retailer on these country would be more 'original',it's from my own experience myself, the first ds9 to usb converter i bought is having fake chip inside converter so whenever i connect eventough the driver installation succeed it failed,2nd attempt is bought another product which i saw on the bad of the box the production date is 2007 and have distributor/retailer on canada,it works fine until now(windows 7 x64 Ultimate),instead of hyperterminal you can use putty(free) or securecrt(paid) as alternative.

Hi,

I try to connect to my RB433 that does not respond via serial console port. But, when I run the "Hyper Terminal" I can see the message "Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup" but I press a key and nothing happens.
The RouterOS kernel's tries to load an later the board crashes. I know that my RouterOS system is crashed but what I don't understand is why my RB's bootloader doesn't respond to my keyboard commands.
My "Hyper Terminal" configuration is: 115200, 8, N, 1 with no flow control.
My cable has the pinout shown on Mikrotik's wiki.
What is the problem?
