Filter Rule not working right?

We have a filter rule setup to drop invalid connections. I have a client that can NOT ping a server behind the same interface as he (Different IP Ranges) when I have the Drop Invalid connections ENABLED? When I disable this rule it begins working? Can someone explain what the "invalid" connection is and why this may behave like this?
