More than 10 Active sessions on lv 3 licence..what happens?

Hi

I have just read that with a level 3 licence (rb133c) I can only have 10 active sessions with user manager http://www.mikrotik.com/pricelist.php

But I am running the pppoe server on an RB433AH with level 5 licence.....So will I still be limited to 10 sessions because I use an RB133c for the userman??

thanks

yes, this limit is for the user manager, so it doesn't matter what license you have on your pppoe server, as long as you use a user manager system for it.

by the way, rb133c is not the right machine for User Manager. you should get a serious device for a RADIUS

agreed, from experiences when pushing traffic through a 133c such as user manager, its as slow as a herd of turtles
stampeding through peanut butter

Yeah I know I need to upgrade....I went to the basic training so I had the 133c lying around so I might as well of used it....My core router is a RB433AH.....I was under the impression that usermanager cannot be on the same router as the pppoe server so thats why I am using both routers.......

Is it possible to run them both from the same routerboard?

thanks

Yes, it's possible to run User Manager and HotSpot/PPPoE/DHCP server on the same router.

My RB433AH also has a level 5 licence......So will I be allowed 50 concurrent sessions with usermanager? It says that it is 10 but with version 3 it is 50.....

I'm running ROS 3.10 so i'm assuming that my userman is version 3......But my distributor said that version 3 hasn't been released yet....... :? :? im confused

So which value is it? 10 or 50?

thanks

there is no separate version numbersing for user manager, because user manager is a PART of RouterOS.

if you are running v3.10 it means that there have been 10 versions since v3 was released, so your distributor is wrong.

should be 50

We’ve been considering moving to UM. I want to be sure that I have this correct....

What dictates the maximum number of sessions?
-The License Level of the device running User Manager?
-The License Level of the device making the inquiry to the UM data base?

Example, lets say that we have the following situation, a small WISP with the following devices deployed:

1. User Manager running on a suitable Level 6 licensed device. (Unlimited UM sessions)
2. An AP running level 4, serving 50 customers.
3. Another AP running level 4, serving 50 customers
4. And another AP running level 4, serving 50 customers.

I imagined that with UM running on the level 6 device that our number of UM users and sessions would be unlimited. Each AP would be unlimited (by UM) in the number of UM controlled connections/sessions that it could handle.

Or, does the license level of each AP have some significance to the number of allowed UM users?

.

I stand to be corrected but from what I understand it is the licence of the usermanager that counts...

Your AP which have a level 4 licence can have a max 200 pppoe tunnels but you have 50 so dn't worry. http://www.mikrotik.com/pricelist.php

What are exactly sessions. I intend to use User Manager for DHCP. Does this mean I cannot have more that 10 DHCP leases?

users vs sessions - when 3 people connect with the same username, it means 1 user, 3 sessions.
