Should hardware retries be the same on the AP as the CPE?

What do you choose to help not disconnect?

The settings on the AP/CPE are independant of eachother and can be tuned on an individual basis to provide the best results overall for your customers.

I recommend reading this, http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Wireless_FAQ, to better understand how RouterOS handles all the different settings.

I been recently been using various tests in combination with the link frames statistics, ping stats and true tcp bandwith to fine tune my links.

As a rule of thumb though my AP's typically preform the best with:
hw-retries = 15
disconnect timeout = 00:00:01
On fail retry time = 1000 ms

But as I said I've been individually tuning all my connections.

I think the faq doesnt exactly tell you what to do. it gives you a very vague answer to very common questions.

for example:

What is CCQ and how are the values determined?

Client Connection Quality (CCQ) is a value in percent that shows how effective the bandwidth is used regarding the theoretically maximum available bandwidth. CCQ is weighted average of values Tmin/Treal, that get calculated for every transmitted frame, where Tmin is time it would take to transmit given frame at highest rate with no retries and Treal is time it took to transmit frame in real life (taking into account necessary retries it took to transmit frame and transmit rate).

as you see, CCQ is calculated with very simple formula - best time, that frame would take at current rate to be delivered successfully divided by time it really took.

Now sit back and think - what could cause your wireless frames to fail?

• 1) noise in envrionment
  2) weak transmission signal for legth of link
  3) too powerful transmission signal
  4) problems with hardware so your frames are not trannsmitted properly (cabling, weak connectors
  etc.

as you see, there are many reasons that i named, and there are many more, and noone can tell you what is the problem that causes your CCQ of the link to fail as you have to look at that link and see for yourself.
