treat service as available only if up

Sun Oct 12, 2008 3:03 am

I have a problem with custom probe.
My probe uses tcp protocol, connects to device, by port 80 ant GETS / to check source code of device webinterface.
Everything works, but the problem is, that dude wants to put this probe on all discovered objects. When i created snmp probe, there was check box named "treat service as available only if up", and the prbe was shown only if its up. Do i need to request feature, or this problem can be solved any other way?

I don't know exactly what that chk box does, but I was hoping that it would disable the probe if the times out.
As for your issue if you are using port 80 the dude will always discover it as a web service or (HTTP). So the easiest way to fix this is go to server configuration, Discover, services, and uncheck http. You will also have to remove your custom probe from Services. If you want to monitor http you will have to manually add it.

Cheers

As you probably already know in the main discovery you can put a check mark on which services are automatically discovered. Then in the device types you can "ignore" the services you do not want added to specific device types. It will take quite a bit of clicking but you can modify every device that is not supposed to get this probe (ignore it). I do not know any other way to deal with it.
