Help with Bridging two NICs to be as one ???

Thu Nov 13, 2008 6:17 am

Hi everyone ,
I want to make this solution , the "A" server is the hotspot server and the gateway ,
it is control every thing ,
the problem is in "B" server , which setting should i use ?
i want to merge the two nics "wlan1 & lan1" together and give them one ip address , like bridge in windows . in order to the communication will pass through it as a managed switch or wireless ap unit like d-link or tp-link etc , clients will use "A" as a gateway , passing through "B" without limitation or control from "B" .

How to make that ?
what is the wireless setting in "B" ?
Thanks ...

Normally to bridge two interfaces on a Mikrotik:

1) add a bridge
2) add both interfaces to it
3) if one of them is a wlan in AP mode, enable dynamic WDS

Steps:

Click on Bridge in the left menu
Click on the red plus sign (on the Bridge tab)
Click OK (accept all defaults)
Click on the Ports tab
Click the red plus sign
Select interface = ether1 and bridge = bridge1, click ok (accept all other defaults)
Click the red plus sign
Select interface = wlan1 and bridge = bridge1, click ok (accept all other defaults)
Close the bridge dialog

Click on Wireless in the left menu, then doubleclick on wlan1
Click on the WDS tab, then set:
wds-mode=dynamic
wds-default-bridge=bridge1

The only problem is, all clients that want to use the bridge MUST connect with WDS mode, so your design won't work!

Done.

everything is exactly correct except for this.

the wireless device attached to the switch might support MAC layer NATing for multiple devices (Tranzeo devices support 254 devices on the ethernet when bridgeing to a wlan interface in this mannor according to their specs) MikroTik does a basic form of MAC NATing when you set the client radio in station-psudobridge mode, but it only supports one device attached to the ethernet side of the bridge.

If your client radio attached to the switch supports WDS, definitly use it, it will allow a true bridge between the AP and the switch, but you may be able to make things work depending on the device you are using without WDS support.

I can't see the laptop connecting in wds mode.

what laptop?

his diagram indicates wired connections to a switch, and then a CPE type device wired to the switch and connected wirelessly to the AP...

Besides, if a laptop is connecting wirelessly, it won't need WDS, the WDS is only for allowing the switch, and all devices attached to it to connect.
