ACK problem in v3.x

Wed Feb 04, 2009 5:44 pm

I have been using The Dude since its RC releases some time ago and must say its a fantastic program.
With that said the newest release while adding some much needed features has introduced in my opinion some unwanted features/bugs.

The problem I am having it that when I ACK a device when it is in the RED (down) state it turns BLUE (ACK'd), then when the unit comes back online it shows GREEN (up), BUT if the unit goes offline again it will not go RED it goes immediately to BLUE and the outages section will not show any outage at all.

The old v2.x used to work as follows:
Unit is online, Dude shows GREEN
Person unplugs their unit becuase they are painting, Dude shows RED
We call to find out what issue is, discover it a known outage and ACK their unit, Dude shows BLUE
Person finishes painting and plugs there unit in, Dude shows GREEN
Person realizes they forgot to paint a wall and unplugs their unit, Dude shows RED

The new v3.x works as follows:
Unit is online, Dude shows GREEN
Person unplugs their unit becuase they are painting, Dude shows RED
We call to find out what issue is, discover it a known outage and ACK their unit, Dude shows BLUE
Person finishes painting and plugs there unit in, Dude shows GREEN
Person realizes they forgot to paint a wall and unplugs their unit, Dude shows BLUE and doesn't report any outage

Is there a setting that would control this function?
I am finding the Dude much less useful, anytime I ACK a unit I have to write it down so to remember who it was so that when it goes GREEN I can UNACK it, otherwise all future outage info is lost.

Cheers

I am having this exact same problem too. I thought it might be because my devices in my backup file from 2.X got corrupted in transition to 3.X, but I have created new devices and confirm that this behavior is universal to all devices in the program.

I have been patiently waiting for a fix since the v3 RC, but we are up to 3.4 now and this bug still exists. Surely this bug hasn't gone unnoticed by the developers since this behavior must be obvious to anyone dealing with a device that has had an outage. This makes me think it is now a "feature" and not a bug. Is this how the Dude is intended to work now? If so I think I am going to have to revert to v2 because this greatly reduces the Dude's usefulness as a network outage monitoring tool. All the Dude is good for now is just bandwidth logging :(

Can anyone explain this or confirm this behavior besides myself and MyThoughts?

No devs have anything to say about this? Surely this bug isn't going to be allowed to slip through the cracks?!?!

It would surely be nice if this behavior could be changed. Once an ACK'd device goes back to green, it should not return to ACK unless I re-ACK it on a subsequent outage.
