RB1000 Reboot Issues

Fri May 22, 2009 10:00 pm

I have 3 brand new RB1000 units in a test lab configuration.

They are truly wonderful devices except that they won't reboot without a full power cycle.

Actually 1 of the 3 will very rarely reboot. The routerboard firmware is at the latest (2.18) rev level.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there any fix? I'd love to deploy these, but this is a definite show-stopper.

fyi, the console shows the following before hanging up:
[admin@rb1k-lab1] > system reboot
Reboot, yes? [y/N]:
y
system will reboot shortly

Rebooting...
Stopping services...
Restarting system.

I have the same problem with my RB1000 (OS 3.28). Everytime i want to reboot it with System/reboot it freezes and never come back. Pulling the powercord and plugging it right back in brings the board back to life - great solution for remote access :?

Is there a fix or i'm doing something wrong?

In my case it turned out to be the memory SIMs. I switched back to the original 512M SIMs shipped with the unit and the problem went away. I really need 2Gb for large multiple feed BGP tables...

Can anyone from MT publish the required specs for memory and/or suggested memory modules?

Ok, that's interesting. I bought it with 2gb ram from fmsweb.de and would expect that they use the right memory...
Maybe the fmsweb-staff can help. I'll email them.

is it possible to check with some other 2GB modules. we have tested with some generic 2GB modules and it worked just fine.

what are specs of modules you are trying to use?

Hi,

I am not employed by MT but I can confirm that the following Kingston 2GB DIMM works perfectly in our own RB1000 routers; they pass the RouterBOOT memory tester with no issues and importantly, they do not show any of the symptoms which you have posted about.

Part Number: KVR667D2S5/2G

Linky to manufacturers' own site: http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configu ... 667D2S5/2G

Hope this helps!

It's definitly a memory issue. The RB1000 don't work with every RAM module.
We send the boards back to our distributor and he swaped the modules. We had some Corsair Value Select and now they put Kingston in it. It works perfect :D
