Benefits of using R52H for wireless g as compared to R52N?

Wed Jul 22, 2009 7:37 pm

I noticed the R52N and the R2N are priced cheaper than the R52H.
Are there any benefits of using the R52H for wireless g as compared to the new N cards? I know the new cards won't work with older firmware, but other than that, I can't see the benefit of spending more money for the R52H?

R52H has more transmit power, as the name suggests (H - high power).

According to the spec sheets for both the R2N and R52N the output power for 802.11g is the same as the R52H at 6Mbps(25dBm) and they are 1dBm higher at 54Mbps(21dBm). Also according to the spec sheet the N cards have notably better receive sensitivity.

I would like to note that when using the R2N & R52N you must use 4.0Beta which has some considerable issues.
If it is for non critical link and you feel like you have to much time on your hands have at it.

That's kind of what I was wondering. Maybe I better wait for some later firmware revisions before making the step.

I'd like to know the answer to this original question as well. They are basically specd the same so if you put the r52n in non-mimo mode (if possible I haven't messed with these at all) what would be the difference?

Thanks

Normis it would have talen the same amount of effort to answer the question. You kill me sometimes :)

Yes I did read them. You said the H means high power. duh. The spec sheet says R52N has same output power as R52H. Therefore I am still wondering wtf. Your answer would suggest the spec sheet is incorrect or maybe it should have been called R52NH.

If I missed something (which is entirely possible) then sorry, would you mind telling me again since I didn't catch it the first time. Otherwise, please try not to be so (whatever you call it) and just dish out a few facts on the topic at hand and your time, my time, and everyone elses time reading this crap would be reduced to facts not word games going back and forth about who said or read what. Geesh!

Your the manufacturer / developer. All us primates come to you for answers and support on your products. Your responses should be nothing but the utmost professionalism and stick to dishing out facts and answers. Keep the other comments in LV :) My two cents...

ps. I love your answers sometimes to people, it makes me laugh, and I'm not trying to beat you up, you guys have good support and good great products. Thanks we all appreciate that.

To quote myself since you will not go back and read.

I'm not real sure whos replying to who, but in case the past two responses were for me I'll ask again since no answer yet regarding my question, which I'll quote, was:

I'd like to know the answer to this original question as well. They are basically specd the same so if you put the r52n in non-mimo mode (if possible I haven't messed with these at all) what would be the difference?

It goes without saying you need ROS 4b4 So past that, point is operationally whats the difference. Here is what I have figured out so far since I posted that question but it would be nice for a complete answer to eliminate surprises later.
- The R52N does not have the same power output as the R52H. Further, you only get the rated output of the R52N if you use 2 chains which then adds the additional 3db to what you would get otherwise.

- The R52N may have problem in B/G mode working on 5 or 10Mhz channels - not sure the status on the post related to this. A guy had two of these and could not get the station to see the AP unless in 20Mhz channel or N mode.

Its just stuff like that I'd like to know without picking up bit and pieces from different threads. Just one simple authoritative answer would be nice :) What issues do I face only buying R52N cards instead of R52(H) cards - aside from the ROS requirements.
