What happened to the MPLS package after 3.23?

Wed Aug 05, 2009 2:54 pm

I hope I am not missing something obvious here, but from version 3.24 onwards the MPLS package is no longer available. What has happened to it?

It is not there - only the beta package is available

That is the beta package - are you saying there is no stable release for MPLS?

of course, it's "regular" only in v4. MPLS is a new feature

Up until 3.23 it was distributed as a regular package able to run with the standard routing package and also as a beta (test) package. This is no longer the case it would seem.

Now you would have to run the routing-test package to run MPLS. Since I have had stability problems in OSPF with the routing-test I cannot run this on my network.

I've only ever had a problem with the non-test package.
Test packages seem to fix many problems.

With OSPF on routing-test I have had several cases where the default instance fails only to start up again after a few reboots. Also routes seem to be persistent and don't get removed even when they are no longer valid (e.g. when removing an IP address from an interface often the route will remain behind and only a reboot fixes)

I have also had examples where OSPF routes get built twice, leaving double the amount of route entries on the system.

Since this is a test package you expect some problems, so I don't have an issue with it; I just would not use it in a production environment.

The MPLS package in 3.23 and earlier was released as a full package, implying some sort of stable operation, even if many MPLS features were not available. Specifically I would like to use it to build VPLS tunnels. I am not too concerned about losing the other functions of the beta package.

More specifically, a reply of "MPLS is only supported in beta from 3.24 onwards" would have answered my question immediately!
