Mon Aug 10, 2009 12:41 pm

Hello. i have a configuration when mikrotik is connected to cisco switch trunk and inside it travel 5 vlan. every vlan on cisco has a adsl modem connected to it and mikrotik do the pppoe-client for this modems that are in bridge mode. The problem that is that pppoe-client disconect every 60 sec if it has not trafic that go throu it .i see idle time 00:00:00 when it has trafic and 00:00:01-59 when it has not trafic and than boom reconnect again.(ex ping gateway), but this cause multiple disconnects which than freeze and cannot connect for a unlimited time. when i use modems in router mode i see them connected from many hours but i dont understad why i cant use in bridge+mikrotik. i have tryed pppoe from win XP and everything is ok , also i have upgraded system to 3.27 but unsuceseful. pls i need help .if i use modem as routers i cant monitor them whem go down and also the failover dont work. i have see other post with this problem i dont know if eny one has find a solution. pls help

Hi,

Take it easy. We are not a full time help desk. Are u sure it's not a PPPoE concentrator configuration issue?
On default settings my PPPoE client works all the time, in ppp profile I use I have blank value for idle-timeout parameter.

regards

thank you for your answer. my configuration is mikrotik/pppoe-client >> telecom adsl provider. I see one connection pppoe-client from mikrotik is up for more that 7 hour but if it has not trafic it will disconnect and try to reconnect again every one minute, but the same adsl modem & user if i make pppoe client from windows is ok it will not disconnect even without trafic so i think it is something to do with mikrotik. maby i am wrong but i have seen other post with same problem. for the moment i am going back modem-router (not pppoe-client from mikrotik) but this is not what i need becouse i cant controll everything this way. thank you for sharing your ideas with me.

/interface pppoe-client set pppoe-out1 dial-on-demand=no

If your connection is timing out, maybe it's at the provider end. They might be dropping the connection if there is no traffic. In which case, make a simple script to contact an internet address every once in a while. Maybe use fetch to grab a webpage from a server, and then add the script to the scheduler.
