ap-bridge B/G mixed mode

Fri Jun 10, 2005 2:27 am

Hi folks,

I would like to know does anybody tried to run ap-bridge in B/G mode on atheros 5212 or any other card and what's the expirience?
Does it work without problem?
Can clients with 802.11b and 802.11g asociate without problems and get theri on speed depending which standard they use?

Thx and cheers...

Everytime I do this with Atheros 5213 card and b/g mode it stops working after a day or so. I have to force it to b or g to get decent stability. It seems to work for a bit, but not 100% of the time. This is on 2.8.x, never tried with 2.9 yet.

I use my APs in G-Only mode, but they will still use B modes for some reason.... Or is that because I am manually setting my data-rates.....

I believe when I have the problem I have to disable / enable the wireless to get it to reset. What happens is the remote clients can see the beacons but they cannot associate for some reason. I never dug into it that much since I only have a laptop using it on a home network.

djape today I tested B and B/G mode in live network 5 clients two G card and others B cards range 2km. B/G mode work very good for me, G clients have much better transfer and B clients (realtek i railink chipset) also have better transfer, I don't why but in B/G mode have better transfer speed compare with B mode only, only Texas Instrument B client card have same transfer.

Pozdrav...

Well, today I tried B/G ap-bridge mode and it worked properly only on 1 AP of 6 :( The rest AP's didn't even allow clients to connect!
All versions are 2.8.27 and the cards are Atheros 5212.
Don't know why?
I am sure now that b/g mode is not fully supported and my advise is to avoid this feature.

Cheers everybody...

I have b/g working fine as indoor AP at 2 locations.
It's fine - with cheap Belkin USB "dongles", Netgear PCMCIA and other clients hung off.
Most connect at 24 ... 48Mbps

Only problems I see are at low signal, with "connect - disconnect" cycling. That IS a MT problem AFAIK.

B/G mode working fine for me, B/G mode lower output signal compare with only B mode.

djape is posible clients don't have enough signal strenght to connect.
For testing I also use cheap PCI card's, djape what your clients use to connect to AP??

Clients are using pheenet 118c+ or D-Link DWL 520+ and they have very good signal, as I said from 6 AP's it only worked on 1 AP without problem! It's not signal problem for sure. Average signal strength is -70, many of them have -60 but not even one could connect. In B mode is working superb, but mixed nothing...

Make sure that your data rates on each end are properly selected and match between the AP and the client if you are not using the default data rates(which don't work well for me and others)....
