The suggestion is easy but powerful.
In firewall, instead of selecting "chains" by a listbox, use Tabs:

(After posting the pic I realized that there should be a "show all" tab too).

Not fast enough. Increases level of stress when you are already under stress (i have many chains and too little time to manage them).

so your saying you have too many chains and you'd rather clutter up the header with tons of buttons than just have a single dropdown?

How is this less fast than looking at 20 buttons?

if you have too many to handle using a drop down your mock up does your idea no justice... in reality your mockup would look more like
[one | two | thr.. | fou.. | fiv.. | six | sev.. | eig.. | nin.. | ten | ele.. | twe.. | thi.. | fou.. | fif.. | six.. | sev.. | eig.. | nin.. | twe.. ]

your available tab space would become too small to display any useful label making you have to mouse over each one to see the tooltip label popping up to display the full one... (or if they impleneted wrapping of tabs, you start to lose vertical space as you get more bars of tabs)

both would be eliminated if they implented tabs + scrolling tab list (horizontally) but thats even less likely I'm sure ;)
