MAC Auth. problem

Wed Jun 15, 2005 9:52 pm

I am using a MT OS and am having problems with mac filtering enabled. The problem is that when I have people using Tranzeo CPE's logging in the MAC address, of the NIC is being from the machine and not the Tranzeo.

How do I get MT to use only the MAC address of the CPE

Any Sugggetions

Jeff

Tranzeo's unit masks it's mac address with the computers. Same as many other types of CPE. They are usually based on the same simple little processor family and software, e.g. Lucent's Ethernet Converter and Symbol's CB-1000.
RouterOS can not tell the difference (otherwise tranzeo's mac masking would have been insufficient).
Effectivly making MAC auth tedious to maintain on such networks.

In a nutshell, it's because your cpe is a transparent bridge. Just filter the MAC of the PC and/or router behind each bridge.
