EOIP + pptp WAN no broadcast

Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:52 am

Good Day I would like a little bit of advice on a setup i'm trying to get going.

I have 3 sites that need to be connected to each other. Two sites each have mikrotik routers and an EOIP tunnel is setup between these two (A) and (B). These sites are both on the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet and this seems to be working fine.

The third site (C), consisting of one PC, connects to Site (A) with a pptp setup on windows. I can ping from a pc at site (A) the PC at site (C) and (C) can ping (A) on the IP's that get assigned to it by the Mikrotik, also on the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet.

Does all broadcast traffic pass through the pptp connection as it does on the EOIP, I suspect it does not as with software that tries to discover over the network seems not to pick up the host it is running on over the pptp but it seems to work over the EOIP tunnel.

Is there perhaps a way to allow this broadcast to pass over the pptp?

You don't have to use EOIP anymore. Mikrotik now supports full bridge directly over pptp...

See this wiki for configuration and examples. I use it and it works great. It passes everything that a normal bridge would pass:
