I'm all new to Mikrotik.
We are a Internet Wireless provider, and we plan to extend some of our business.
I'm considering buying the Router OS License to Run as auth server for my Business VLAN.
I'm interested on many resources that I see Mikrotik can do. But I'm unsure about how to setup. Could someone give me an advice?
Today we have a hotspot software called FirstSpot by Patronsoft and we plan to keep it on the public hotspot. I'm runnig a Mikrotik testing version on Vmware inside that Windows 2003 hotspot server and plan to keep as this (virtualized).
We got an wireless cloud by Strix Systems, which allows me to authenticate the CPE's WPA/WEP/802.X/RADIUS.
I plan to keep the same wireless gear and use RouterOS on PC just as authentication and billing server. And to have some users control.
I got many scenarios, for each client and would be too complicated to explain here. Please take a look on the graph bellow:
Based on this information, I got some facts and questions.
1 - We want to bill our clients based on ammount of traffic per month. Either by MAC addres, but possibly by IP. Would Mikrotik ip accounting do the job?
2 - We plan to use either Radius authentication/802.x auth, or web based auth to business.
3 - We want to use QOS to prioritize Business clients vlans and Voip vlans.
4 - We plan to use surveilance cameras support.
5 - Using Mikrotik on a pc or virtual pc: does it sound allright? Should I use RouterBoard?
6 - I dont intend to use mikrotik wireless side, BUT, i accept opinions on how I could use.
