Hotspot - Guest/Trial Access active users

Mon Mar 29, 2010 3:08 pm

Hi,

Im thinking of implementing a splash screen for users on the network with terms and conditions to agree to before using the internet.

I want to use the mikrotik hotspot trial feature for this.

I was wondering do trail users count towards the usermanager active users/sessions limits.
I was thinking of using a RB450G on the network and can expect upto 70 users online but the RB450G with license only supports 50 active usermanager sessions.

Any advice on this?

Do trial users use up User Manager slots?

I think trial users has to do directly with hotspot, not with user manager. User mannager gets into action when a user id and password is being used, and then you can have as many users active with your user manager level license, the same for hotspot.

To elaborate on that, User Manager gets involved when accounts are logged in via RADIUS authenticating against the User Manager instance. Trial users and local Hotspot users with user names and passwords do not count against User Manager slots.

Thats perfect!

Thanks for sharing the knowledge, I can go ahead with the project I had in mind with out worrying about it cutting out after 50 users.
