Hello,
i want to downgrade my rc10 system to rc7 again to check some compatibilities and incompatibilities between the versions. i have a authentication problem when using a wireless link with aes encryption.
when i upload the rc7 package for rb500 via ftp and go to sys -> packages-> downgrade ... the system boots but does not downgrade.
how can i downgrade to rc7 and where can i find the right package for downgrading for my rb500?

yeah, thank you ... i heard about that and tryed it once... did not work for me.

... i will retry it at weekend.
is it correct to use the complete package ... i did not find single module files for the rc7 or any other rc. so i uploaded the whole rc7 package and restarted ... is this correct or is here a basic failure already ?

I think you have to select "downgrade" under system-packages after ftp'ing the files up.

This is a bit tricky so I hope I get it right...
a) Delete the files you do not want in system-packages..
b) FTP up the new (or older) files
c) You should see the files under the 'files' menu
d) Select 'downgrade' as stephen says (in system-packages) and reboot.
BUT you still may have to power off and on !?!?
Dont blame me though if you get it wrong (or I got it wrong) and you need a new licence.
I suggest you carefully study the 'package-management' guide.
Cheers
PS I think if you have enough memory the full package **should** work..

Yup I'd agree with all that.
Even upgrades can need a power cycle on some occasions. I had this with an RC8 - 9 upgrade:
Upgrading one of my home AP's (a 266MHz platform) remotely, it needed a power cycle - I was 60 miles away at the time, connecting to a PC via VNC - so it needed a physical visit to pull the power and make it come up.
Wasn't a problem in that no-one was using it, but would not have been fun if it were on a remote site with live customers etc.
That's rare though, in my experience with many dozens of RouterOS upgrades, including almost all of the 2.9 beta's and RCs - they mostly behave.

hmmm ... but in my system/packages i can see all the installed packages ... each separate.
on the mikrotik website i only can find a complete package for the rb500. is there a possibility to download any separate package of any rc (FOR RB500) ?
Is the mis-woriking of the up/downgrade function already on the todo list of mikrotik ?

simply use the big package, it will automatically instal all the needed packages. btw you don't have to delete any packages before up/downgrading
attention, important! you cannot downgrade to RC7 and below with the downgrade command, only to RC8 and up. This applies only to RouterBOARD 500 version. You can only downgrade with Netinstall.

Now, I cannot downgrade to rc6 because Netinstall not install rc6.
I've delete all package then I loaded Netinstall without success... only rc8 to rc10 is been istalled.

I already wrote you, it is not possible. only rc8 and up. also - latest version should not have any problems, if you have problems with the latest version, make supout.rif files and email support with detailed description
