Hi,

Looking at replacing some linux servers which do DNS, DHCP, OpenVPN, PXE TFTP, plus a little bit of routing and was wondering what people thoughts were on how practical it would be from a manageability prospective.

Looking at using something like the RB450G. Providing DNS, DHCP, PXE for around 100 workstations across half a dozen vlans and about a dozen open VPN's sessions.

What are peoples thoughts?

Should I go there? Or stick to the linux box's?

IMHO mikrotik is decent as a caching DNS server, but not a full blown replacement for DNS. If you are looking to replace a VPN concentrator then Mikrotik is a good choice. Hardware will dictate how many active sessions you can have.

*I have 28 AP's with 10 clients on some & 130 on others and I use every AP routerboard for a caching DNS server. All the clients connecting to that tower have that AP's address (gateway) for their DNS.
*I point all AP's primary DNS settings to a Linux DNS box (on one internet provider), and AP's secondary settings to a Windows DNS (different internet provider). Has worked great for 6 months now.
