Wireless setup in a shop environment - VoIP & barcode reader

Fri May 14, 2010 5:46 pm

Hi,

I'm looking to deploy a wifi in the G or A band in a shop. The shop have 1000 feets long by 200 feets large and 20 feets high.

Due to walls and machines placement on the shop floor I assume I will need 4-5 APs to get good coverage.

I have to connect:
- 5 wireless barcode reader. (VT 100 terminal)
- 7-10 workstations (used for time entry)
- 15 ip phones

I need one SSID all over the shopfloor so the ip phones and barcode reader can roam at will even when they are talking.

Edit: The APs would need to be PoE.

I've not used mikrotik for the past two years, but I'm familiar with the product as I did PTP links and setup outdoor APs to deliver internet wirelessly where there was no other broadband carriers. Mostly with good old RB532.

I need advices as what would be the best hardware for APs and configuration to achieve the goal I have.

Thanks a lot.

I'm guessing the main rb will be rb600 or rb800 but I prefer an x86 pc then use wds to send the signal among all aps with one ssid rb 411 will be a good option

We did a similar project and it was for over than 60 wifi scanner
