Upgrading to RouterOS 5.0 beta 2

Thu May 27, 2010 6:29 am

About a month ago I upgraded to version 4.9 on my RB750G. At that time, I tried messing around with the MetaRouter feature, and ended up in a situation where it appeared that my Flash was close to full. Even though I had successfully started a DD-WRT image a couple of times, I got to the point that it wouldn't allow me to load another image.

Anyhow, tonight I wanted to try upgrading to 5.0 beta 2. I attempted to load it via WinBox, but again, I'm running out of space. Prior to me attempting to load the routeros-mipsbe-5.0beta2.npk onto the RB750G, I have 52.0 MB used, though less than 200K of files is listed. The less than 10 MB left (up to 61.4) is not enough room to load any of the last several versions.

I found this post (http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=38313) which seems to be related - asking about formatting the flash...
I tried holding down the reset button on the RB750G to force it to do a netinstall, but it never talks to my netinstall machine. Is there a particular port it is expecting to talk out? Or if my netinstall machine can hit the Internet normally, should it find the RB750G when I've held down the reset button until the ACT light has gone out?

Thanks,
Paul

Netinstall is running on Ethernet1 port.
Follow the sequence to run Netinstall,
- hold on reset button;
- switch on the RouterBOARD;
- wait for ACT LED to blink;
- wait for ACT LED stop to blink;
- release reset button;
RouterBOARD 750G should run EtherBoot after it.

I kept playing with it, and couldn't get it to work - though I was on the wrong port. Eventually, I ended up reseting my unit to factory defaults, then reloading the config backup I had made before starting this process. After that, I had only 30 MB used out of the 61, so that seems to have fixed my issue. Just wanted to post here about it, in case anyone else had this issue.

Thanks,
Paul
