Are you planning to deploy VoIP enduser hardware?

Wed Jul 28, 2010 11:05 am

Hi,

Guys are you planning to set up any voip hardware? Ideal would be 711 with integrated voip. So we put 2x ethernet cable on roof (one for ethernet + phone lines one for power).

Or RB450g with radio and voip?

This would be the best CPE solution.

if by guys you mean mikrotik, better address those to sales@mikrotik.com because this is a community forum

AFAIK there are and will be no plans for any VOIP devices

buy one of these and just stick it in the same enclosure or case:

http://www.telephonyware.com/telephonyw ... ht286.html

Its about half the size of a routerboard.

yup, community, but You normis is from MT, so the recipment of this question is correct :)

IMHO this is bad approach ... as going into triple play is only "right" solution, and MT has noting incommon with tv this is natural way of evolution of routerboards for me as an integrator and wisp/isp

And how are you going to connect it to rb on the roof with cpe? as 411/711 has only one eth? What about power? What about warranty ? Plenty of problems that could be solved with one integrated rb. And ofc - quality of voip by grandstream is not so good...

ZyXEL make a small ethernet router that has 1x WAN, 1x LAN and 2x FXS ports. It will do PPPoE on the native vlan and can put voip on a seperate vlan.

Just use the Mikrotik as the CPE on the roof, and then terminate the customer PPPoE connection and VoIP with the ZyXEL.

Are you seriously suggesting running two cat5e cables from the customer to the antenna outside? That's crazy.
It is so much simpler, cheaper, and safer to put the ATA indoors.

Is this just a guess or have you had problems with a specific grandstream products?
Our grandstream ATAs and phones sound at least as good as POTS.

I think Linksys and Grandstream have similar products as well.

There are plenty of affordable VoIP adapters in the market already.
Mikrotik should continue to focus on routing and wireless IMO.

Darn !!!

And I was hoping for an IP enabled, voice activated toaster!!
You know, with a built in web interface, so I could control it from my smart phone from the other room..
I wanted to be able to load it at night, and then in the morning when I got up, browse to the toaster, select the toast level and start the cycle and then have it email me or even better IM me when it was done. I also want a web cam in it so I can watch it cook (or burn as the case may be)..
Oh and an expansion connection for the coffee maker…
COOL !!!

I know shut up Smart @SS....

You are able to do that with a RouterBOARD. Use the beeper, or the LED to connect to some kind of relay that turns on the toaster, then make a script that enables the LED or the beeper.
