i have had issues with the wireless interface on the above, my clients who keep disconnecting but when i downgraded to 4.10 it came back well. looks like a bug or something still has to be worked on.

some settings could need adjustment. you should post the disconnection debug logs from both the AP and the clients.

Which adjustments need to be made that we are not aware of? At least when an upgrade is developed notification should be placed, that after an upgrade the following need to be adjusted so that we make the adjustments after the upgrade. the logs am getting are disconnecting and connecting from the logs

Did you downgrade the AP or the CPE's? Or both?

AP only as that is what brought the issues after the upgrade

Hi gents -

I'm having similar wireless issues with 5.0rc1 on a RB433UAH and one R52Hn with two antennas connected. I'm running 2Ghz b/g/n 802.11.

Clients spend more time unable to send packets than able to - 56% loss over a ping lasting 3 hours.

Wireless debug has been enabled but the dropouts aren't always logged - when they are, they appear to be logged as group kex timeouts.

Further details pasted below. If support need a supout or any further information, just let me know :)

Hi,

I am having exactly the same issue with RB493G+R52Hn v4.16. Client is MacBook Pro.

Is there something I am missing (I am new with RouterOS) or this is a hardware problem?

Thank you.

There's a problem between Broadcom chipset Apple machines (you can check in the output of "system_profiler") and Mikrotik 802.11n. This is fixed in 5.0rc9, but that is of course not a stable version yet.

don't use TKIP for N. Use AES.
Broadcom N Mac users shoudl be able to connect to Mikrotik AP fine in RouterOS v5.0rc10

Hello,

thank you for replies.
Yes - I am using TKIP. Going to try using AES this evening. Will let you know about results.

Hi,

sorry for long silent.

OK. I have tried to use AES instead of TKIP. Maybe I have done something wrong, but it was even worse.

This is log snippets when using TKIP:

could you contact support and include the support output file when you use AES encryption.
Also only Macbook Pro gives that problem? What MacOS you are using and are you running the latest updates for the wireless driver? Check "About This Mac" -> "More info" -> "AirPort" and tell us what software driver and what hardware you have there.

Will do that later this evening or tomorrow.

Em.. Basically YES - because only MBP I am using continually. I have iPhone 4 and iPad, but they are used for short time periods only, therefore I haven't noticed any problems.

EDIT:
Well, looks like iPhone is also affected by this (currently using TKIP):

I am using latest MacOS X: 10.6.6.

As for drivers and hardware info, I will provide that later this evening, because at the moment I am not at home.

Edited. Added log for iPhone (iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1)

Hi uldis! That "group key timeout"....is that handled by beacon packets? Should I add that message to the list?

For others that have not seen "the list":

AP send out the group key update packet and waits 1second for the reply, if it didn't get that, it resends the packet. This is done 5 times and after the 5th time the connection is closed with the 'group key exchange timeout' message.

Please try to use AES instead of Tkip and try again with the iPhone.

Just to be sure - I should check AES only? I am asking, because, if I correctly remember, it is possible to check both - TKIP and AES - in Winbox.

Settings should be:

yes, check only AES. AES encryption is faster (done in hardware) and more secure.

As you can see, iPhone is not mentioned in the log (except for unlocking, sleeping, and locking). I was watching video through youtube, Airvideo (takes video from remote streaming server) and CrystalTV (internet tv). Also checked mail, browsed web. Everything was ok.

On the Mac OS connection was not stable. On Windows (according to the log) it wasn't disconnected, but speed was VERY poor. On OSX when using TKIP I am able to use internet, but it drops periodically. With AES, practically unusable. Very often even pinging router is timed out.

could you make the support output file when that MBP is connected using AES in v4.17 with wireless-nv2 package and send it to support@mikrotik.com?

Ok. Maybe very very stupid question. But.. have I had to enable it (wireless-nv2 package) before using N wireless? It is disabled by default and I haven't touched it (as I have mentioned - I am absolutely new to all this stuff...).

N wireless should be working also with the regular wireless package, but the fixes for the Macbook broadcom chipset is only in wireless-nv2 package.
Click on Enable button for wireless-nv2 package and reboot the router. Then report back if that solves that problem.

Nope. It doesn't help at all. Now none of my devices (MBP, iPhone, iPad) were able to connect.

I have enabled wireless-nv2:

Both - iPhone and iPad reported error while connecting:

Should I make support file?

p.s. maybe some wireless setting should be adjusted? I saw, that lots of new settings appeared in wireless interface tab related to nv2.

write to support@mikrotik.com about this issue. Try to reset the wireless cards configuration, set the ht-chains, band, frequency, ssid and try to connect using apple devices (check if they work fine without encryption) when using wireless-nv2 package.
