I have been trying very hard to get a simple VOIP link working correctly, but it has turned into a nightmare.
Here is my setup
VOIP Server 700mhz amd (Zaptel x100p, hooked into a pots line)

Ethernet
|

VOIP client (400mhz intel) Phonejack lite ISA card
All I want to do is be able to use my regular pots line at a remote location through a ethernet connection.
When I pick up the phone connected to the phonejack lite card, and dial a number, I will hear it dial the digits on the remote end, but I never hear the last few digits on the remote end and then the whole link goes dead, no audio will pass through. It does dial the number completely on the zaptel end, because the phone rings that I dialed.
I have tried different codecs with no luck.
A 3 digit phone number is no problem, for example 211.
But if I try calling a 7 digit number or 10 digit, it always looses the audio path before the last for 2nd to last digit is dialed.
When I can finally get a phone call to go through, I have problems with echo. I have tried ever imaginable setting and can't get rid of it.
Has anyone ever got something like this to work.
Any help would be appreciated.

Here is my dialogue with Mikrotik support (why would I want to plug into a PBX?? I though that was the whole idea of the X100P, to eliminate the need for a PBX)

Echo depends on PSTN connection to Zaptel card. If that PSTN line is
connected to local pbx (telephone central), then echo path is very short
and sound is not distorted => it is easy for echo canceller to handle
this. But, if PSTN is connected to public PSTN network, then echo path
may vary a lot. Either latency in PSTN line is too long or quality of
the echo is too bad.
If it is possible, try to connect Zaptel card to some other PSTN line
(preferably - local pbx). And may be try to call some other telephone
numbers (preferably - local telephone number on local pbx) - echo path
may greatly vary depending on that as well.
