RB711 Wireless problem / Disconnect from AP

Fri Jan 07, 2011 2:25 pm

Hi all!

I have a big problem with RB711 as shown in the header. I have read lot of topics, but I did't find this problem and the solution!
I have cca 50pcs of RB711 all of this a works properly, but the last shipment includes a bug / factory defect or something like that.
The last few pcs are seriusly disconnecting from the AP, time to time. Sometimes it's connected for a day, but usaly it's disconnects hourly.
Three different CPE boards are on three different AP's. The AP is 433AH v3.30 + EMN-8603, 11a mode, Nsteram off.
(Lot of RB711 and UBNT WS-5 are connected on this cards, without any problem!)

The ccq is 95-100% the Tx/Rx rate is 54/54Mbit both side. The ROS version is 4.11 as in all of the shipped 711's.
We have installed to the customers 3 pcs form the last shippment and all 3 pcs are disconnecting from the AP,
but the older 711's are stable as a concreat base or cube. :D
There is only one different, that I have seen: when I scan with the newest 711, the signal sterngt and the SNR is waveing!
(Signal strength: -58dBm to -88dBm; SNR: -5dB to 50dB)

Have anybody a solution?

THX in advance,
Dave

I have the same problem with some RB711

Samoe of them connect without problem but some tend too disconnect even though the signal strength is ok eg. -66db oe even -45db.
This problem was very extreme on RB711 with ROS4.16

The affected RB connect to the AP and disconnects usually with "extensive data loss" or "identification timeout" or "managemnt frame error(or sth. like that)". Usually after trying for 20 times or more it connects and after that it is all ok until next disconnects .

Most of the affected RB's seem to by ok after Netinstalling RO's, but not all of them.

Well!

Thursday we have installed the fifth RB711 of the latest shippment.

Scenario:
If you scan with the RB711, it can find the APs, but the scanlist is includes negative values @ the SNR! The wlan status is show the same negative SNR and very high noise! (My AP's signal (5745MHz) with RB711 was -86dBm and -30dB SNR!) The RB711 is generate a noise himself over 5500-5600MHz. (The border frequency is various, depend on CPE's "goodness factor"!) If you use under this border frequency the equipment will be ok. (On 5300 noise= -100dBm; 5500 noise= -86dBm; 5600 noise= -72dBm; 5700 noise= -63dBm; 5825 noise= -54dBm!!!) I won't to explain what is the situation if your signal is lower, than the noise... We have cross checked five times the installation, the pigtail, the antenna, the screws and the connectors in the CPE antenna, etc. Nothing wrong part... @ -86dBm noisefloor you can use the radio, but the reserve'll be low. If you got a fadeing...

We checked the access list entrys in the AP, the MAC is ok, but the CPE is not connecting, additionally nothing clue in the log! So the CPE don't want to connect to the AP? The RB711 log includes lot of entry (15 sec separation): bla-bla-bla; authentication timeout, so the RB711 find the AP and try to connect to it, but after a few ms the CPE drops the connection or simply not connects. This is because of the high noise level?!

After two and a half hours (su.k) we uninstalled this CPE, and we installed an other manufacturer's CPE board (WS-5) to the customer.
Anything else is the same, just the board is changed! Results: Signal:-55 to -50dBm SNR:40 to 45dB
Throughput: Download 22-23Mbit; Upload: 6-8Mbit!

I have returned the latest shippment of RB711's to the distibuton! We was find several good pieces in the shipment, but I did't want to waste time (su.k...) with the selection of the boards...
I hope, the guys in Riga will find the source of the problem and fix it! Securely it's a hardware problem.
Some of the active components are failed(???) or there is a factory nonconformity in the production line(???) or bad quality contoroll(???) or quality check(???) or I don't know... :(

Normis! Please check the returned RB711's, because this product is a good idea and shold be a very sophisticated CPE, with lot of good features!!!
(From an earlier shipment I have countless of good RB711's in my network! The performance is compelling: 25Mbit FDX!!!, 11a, nstreme on!) :D

The same:

Now we have some RB's with the SNR and noise level problem, and for sure at least one that does not connect to AP and there is info on the RB side about "authentication timeout" and no info on AP side, like the RB does not even try too connect.
