MUM HOTEL & VARIOUS CONSIDERATIONS

Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:31 pm

Hi, I arrive today from Barcelona, to the Ramada aquaworld hotel.

I don't know who take the decision on selecting this hotel, but if you would go to the center, you have To take the hotel free bus to the center, that takes you to about 3-4km of the center!, and later to return, you have to pick up a taxi, AND PAY 25€ more or less to the taxi. The hotel is veeery far (20km or more!!!) of the center and with very bad comunication..

27-30km from the airport!!!!

Take care also with bars and restaurants in the center: 15?!?! € for a heineken beer or whatever!!! We take several beers today.. 0-0

I hate Budapest today.

Sincerely, THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE BEEN IN MY LIVE, considering distances to the center of its city.. You'll see ; D!

I think that Ibersystems is too positive, it is even worse.
The prices are more expensive than in Barcelona, the hotel communications are horrible, in the center is full of people trying to rip-off, taxi drivers are thiefs. The only sure thing is that I won't be back to Budapest.

I am just now working out all the travel methods to get from Hotel to Budapest City centre. Hotel is on the north side of the city. There is a free hotel mini bus from Hotel to "City" as follows:

1030, 1330, 1530, 1630, 1730, 2000

Return times for free bus from "City" to Hotel is:

1000, 1100, 1400, 1600, 1700, 1800

Yes, the last free bus is at 1800! So ibersystems is correct, if you wish to enjoy a meal in the city or a beer (or two, or three or...), you will be forced to take a taxi back. The nearest metro is 45 minutes walk away from Hotel, so if you take Metro on your return, the 45 minute walk will remove all the alcohol from your blood. Not good!

The free bus does not take you into the city centre, again, as ibersystems states, it only takes you to the outside of the city centre. You must then take a Metro train to get into "real" city centre. Or face a 30 minute walk.

I paid an extra €5 for an evening buffet meal every day in hotel, which was "ok" last night (the hot food could have been hotter). I originally planned I was going to go into City every night for a meal, but think it will be hotel restaurant for food and restaurant bar for beers if the prices ibersystems has found so far are universal! :-( My room price also included free access to the Spa, but this does not include free access to 'Aquaworld', so if I want to enjoy the 5 story high water slides, I have to pay! :-) (Hotel tells me price is 50% for guests).

One good piece of advice for those flying into Airport: Get some Hungarian money before you arrive and buy a ticket for the 'Airport Shuttle mini-bus' from Airport to Aquaworld Ramada Hotel. Door to door for 2990 HFl (about €10). Do NOT get a taxi. Get this bus. Journey time was about 45 minutes and will take passengers to any hotel they ask for, so the route may vary each time. But for €10, this is the best value transport in Budapest!! Do not pay for ticket in Euros, then the price becomes €35!

You're right about taxi drivers. Nest wrote the solution: take the airport mini bus.
The hotel is placed on the border of the city, so if someone was on MUM Prag 2006, this is the same situtaion.
Not the best choice, but we can not do anything.
Advice for forigners:
1, change money (in hotel and not on street) and do not pay anyting with euro
2, always, again always get the price before you order
3, never listen for the taxi driver's offered restaurant or pub.
4, try to get tourist information from the hotel.

Budapest is beautiful, but fulled with thiefs.

You can easy find a pub, and drink a heineken for ~800Ft (3 euros)

Follow the instructions how to get taxi from airport and pay HUF5700 fixed rate http://www.bud.hu/english/passengers/tr ... ng/by_taxi, if you don't want to pay HUF8900 as per the meter.
Passengers reporting at the Főtaxi stand will receive a voucher, which contains among others the fare.
Also the same from Wikitravel:
Főtaxi is the only legal taxi operator from Ferihegy airport. Depending on your destination, a trip to Budapest costs between HUF 3900-5700. The fare is slightly more expensive if paid in Euros. Queue at the taxi stand to receive a written quote for your fare, then pay it when you arrive at your destination. This system is designed to eliminate unjustified price hikes. IMPORTANT: unless you have pre-ordered a taxi from a different company, do not accept offers from taxi drivers waiting in the terminal or near the terminal entrances. This is for your own safety. On your trip into town you might receive a business card from Főtaxi quoting cheaper fares bound to Ferihegy airport (i.e. €16 from Pest). Reserve a car by phone and quote the offer to save some money.
