Transfer settings to new router

Wed Mar 16, 2011 2:12 pm

hello all

i have new router that i bought (rb493ah) that i want to replace my rb600.

I want to move ALL my settings to the new one.

i was thinking of doing it by hand but thats so tedious.
is there any easy way to do this?

i looked at /export but the mac addresses are different and can cause a mess

any tips?

/export and edit out specific stuff such as MAC addresses. You'll obviously need to edit it for a few other things as well depending on what version you are going to and from, some syntax has changed between certain versions, and all interface names may not be valid. If you copy the output of export and paste it in a ssh session, it will run through the whole thing, and any error lines it will have highlighted with a red mark at the beginning of the line so you know what you need to fix by yourself.

You could try doing a backup and restore, but that will create a partially broken configuration since it's being moved to a different hardware version. Backup was designed to only work on the same router it was taken from.
